Length : 73:14 Release Date : 1994 Quality : Soundboard Recordings (A+) Review (Franklin Corbin) : I am very impressed with the overall sound quality. In fact, most of the CD sounds like a studio recording with the exception of four or five of the songs. Very crisp sound from the horns to the vocals. Lots of backup vocals can be heard behind Van, however, I can't tell who they are. Some of the songs are from the same live show so there is a nice transition from one song to the next after the crowd applause. Certainly, Van's voice is strong and sounds as though the songs are from the early to mid 1980's at the latest. Track #4 "Jackie Wilson Said", is one of the liveliest renditions of this song I've heard as far as live versions go. There is live audience applause on each and every song. Van does not chat or converse in between sets. The band is extremely tight, crisp and well tuned as demonstrated on the songs "Bein' Green" and "Checkin' It Out" (Great female backup vocals on Checkin' It Out). A very good mixture of great Van songs. Only a few songs (And It Stoned Me, Caravan, Crazy Love) have a weak, tinny sound. |
