Review: This recording captures one of the most remarkable concerts in U2's history. On 23 September 1997, barely two years after the end of the Bosnian war, the PopMart Tour landed in the rebuilt Kosevo Stadium in Sarajevo, a place that had been used to store bodies during the siege. Some 45,000 people, from all the communities that had fought each other for years, came together for what many called the first real sign of peace in the city; a special train was even laid on to bring fans from Mostar. Bono had barely any voice left before the end of the opening stretch, so The Edge and the crowd took over much of the singing for the rest of the night, but that only made the atmosphere more intense. The absolute highlight was the live debut of Miss Sarajevo, the song the band had written years earlier with Brian Eno about a beauty pageant held in the city during the siege. Despite Bono's vocal problems, the concert, which was broadcast live on BBC Radio 1, was enthusiastically received and is still regarded as one of the most symbolic rock shows ever.
