Review (Amazon) : Yes, we now have another Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers bootleg thrust upon an angry world. April, 1999 our hero and his ever-trusty band have arrived in Hamburg, Germany and you can almost smell the salty air on the docks. TP & The Heartbreakers are a live band and from what I have heard this bunch has set a few stages of the world on fire. Hamburg is burning by the end of this two and one half hour set. You get two full CD's of music (145 minutes) and "Echo" is the featured album from this tour. The songs from that collection like "Room at the Top" and "Swingin" hit the mark as bigger and better here. Tom, plays many cover tunes in concert and in Germany classics as "Call Me The Breeze" "Green Onions" "Lucille" & "Gloria" give The Heartbreakers another chance to jam and soar. You get a few TP hit songs but on stage Tom and the boys go way beyond the top 40 material and don't play what you would expect and (for me) it's all part of the magic. And to hear Mike Campbell unleashed as a guitar wizard is just another extra element you will find on these two discs. The Heartbreakers are a powerful band that over the years have gotten better and better. The performances are a solid five on a five scale on these discs. Sound quality? The first disc starts out really murky and distant but lucky for us as the show progresses it starts to sound better and better. To have a proper remaster of this set would give you a fantastic listening experience, and to suit the amazing performance it does merit a remix by quality engineers. The sound of the set "San Francisco Serenades" beats this Hamburg double disc by a country mile and the SF show contains THREE CD's of high-caliber live Tom Petty so I must recommend that set over this one because of sound quality. If you hate bootleg records stay clear of these imports from East Europe and Russia. Let's hope the estate of Tom Petty gives the green light to release some Heartbreaker live concerts in the near future as the demand for high quality live music from this band would be a win/win. This would be a five star rating with improved sound but as is: Three Stars.

Note : The exact date of the concert is April 23, 1999. The date on the artwork is wrong.
