RICHIE FURAY : I STILL HAVE DREAMS |
|
Label : Asylum Released : 1979 Length : 35:54 Review (Amazon) : Though probably the weakest of Richie's three solo Electra/Asylum recordings, it nevertheless has much to reccomend it. As with his previous release (Dance a Little Light), the affects of the disco era can be felt especially on the first track "Ooh Child". Thankfully, it does not last, and we get back to the more pop-country-rock Richie does so well. In fact the greatest strength of this record lies in the all-out rock and roll numbers, "Come On" and "What's the Matter, Please?" on which Richie sings with urgency and power, even letting his voice get a little raspy on the latter. Also of note are two mellow tracks written by band member Billy Batstone, "I was a Fool" and "I Still Have Dreams". These are simply examples of great songwriting and of course, Richie's voice puts a beautiful luster on them. Also of note, the bass playing of Leland Sklar is featured throughout and is absolutely amazing! |
