Review (Let It Rock) : One doesn’t need to be familiar with Paul Brady‘s name to have heard him sing – and millions of people did, when the Irish warbler delivered a cover of “Gimme Shelter” for the “Sons of Anarchy” series. His career started much earlier, though, the singer’s stints with THE JOHNSTONS and PLANXTY leading to a string of solo records the first of which was released in 1978 and the last in 2022. Still, a lot of material seemed to fall through the cracks between, respectively, “Welcome Here Kind Stranger” and “Maybe So” – and that includes various collaborative efforts. So there’s a lot of reasons for veteran to compile quite a few rarities, demos and concert performances among them, into a box set. Under a simple title, “The Archive” that will be out on March 28th is to see the light of day on four CDs only, because none of these tracks should appear on digital platforms – and even if they were to get there, a hardback book which holds the discs is a purely physical object to enjoy.
