PATTI SMITH : LIVE AT CBGB'S |
|
Disc One (67:44)
Disc Two (59:04)
Label : The Swingin' Pig Venue : CBGB's, New York City, New York, USA Recording Date : August 11, 1979 Quality : Soundboard Recording (A-) Review (Tony Rzepela's) : An excellent quality recording of a mess of a show, the group's second that day after a Central Park concert. Patti's voice is ravaged, and a lot of the tracks are sung by her colleagues in the Patti Smith Group - mostly the songs that had appeared at other 1979 shows, such as "Cold Turkey", "Twist and Shout", and "All Along the Watchtower". It was probably a bad time to try out some of the more ambitious pieces, too. She's tired, high (although manages to sober up before the end of the first disc), and occasionally bitter. To her credit, she does grasp that something isn't quite right. A vital document, but for completists/enthusiasts, and certainly not a worthy introduction. |
