Review (AllMusic) : Of the numerous bootlegs of live 1970's Patti Smith performances, this show at the Bottom Line in New York on December 28, 1975 is one of the better ones. Broadcast locally on WNEW-FM, the sound is pretty good, and the quantity of material generous. The singing and playing is energetically powerful, and the set list includes covers like "Time Is on My Side," "My Generation," "Louie Louie," and the Velvet Underground's "We're Gonna Have a Real Good Time Together." The one thing to keep in mind if you're a Patti Smith collector is that much the same set was done even better at a show the following month (at the Roxy in Los Angeles on January 30, 1976) that rates as the best Smith bootleg, not to mention one of the best bootlegs ever. So if you already have that item, you might find this one a tad redundant. In its favor, however, Let's Deodorize the Night does offer some songs that don't appear on the boots of the Roxy show, like "Space Monkey" and the aforementioned "Time Is on My Side." It also opens with some entertaining, if not exactly essential, solo Smith spoken word/poetry musings, which are not present in any form on the Roxy bootleg.
