Travelling with Nigel Eaton on Hurdy Gurdy and The Egyptian Pharaos, as well as using local symphonic orchestras they really showed the depth and scope of the Led Zeppelin vision. At the time it certainly estranged quite a few of their fans, but listened to today it is so advanced and so beautiful, it really stands out in the illustrious careers of these two musical legends. Here they are caught a hot summer night in California, and as always from Woodstock Tapes in an excellent quality, both audio and visual. And caught on one of those inspired nights where everything clicks. The rythm section of Charlie Jones on some fusion-inspired bass and the hardworking, enthusiastic Michael Lee can certainly almost match Jones and Bonham. And the Egyptian musicians as well as the symphonic strings both add colour and beauty to the music. Highlights: a jam-filled, far out "Whole Lotta Love", Jimmy Page really diving into the transcendental realm, and a joyous and intense "Kashmir". Not to be missed by any Page, Plant or Led Zeppelin fan. |
