Review : A fine audience document of one of the eleven European dates on which Pearl Jam served as Neil Young's backing band during the summer of 1995, in support of the Mirror Ball album. Eddie Vedder sat this brief tour out, so it is Stone Gossard and Mike McCready on guitars, Jeff Ament on bass and former Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Jack Irons behind the kit, with regular Pearl Jam collaborator Brendan O'Brien adding organ. True to the arrangement that kept the group's own name off the record sleeve, the set draws entirely on Young's catalogue rather than any Pearl Jam material, running from the loose, unreleased likes of Big Green Country and Act Of Love through faithful readings of Mr. Soul, The Needle And The Damage Done and After The Goldrush. The second disc catches the band stretching out on Cortez The Killer and a lengthy Like A Hurricane before the crowd's memory of Pearl Jam's own 1993 Stockholm support slot pays off: an encore of Down By The River and a second Like A Hurricane, dusted off on request. The venue itself, the harbourside Sjöhistoriska Muséet, had already hosted the two acts together two years earlier, giving this return date the feel of a reunion as much as a tour stop. The well-balanced audience source captures the interplay between Young and his temporary band with real warmth.
