Review (Old Grey Cat) : Comprised of Neil's 10 songs from CSN&Y's 1974 kickoff of the "Doom Tour" in Seattle on July 9th as well as two tracks each from what the accompanying sleeve says is the August 14th & 15th shows at Nassau Coliseum in New York, Traces is a good alternative to, say, "Roosevelt Raceway" and the other mega-disc collections covering the '74 tour. The performances aren't mind-blowing--"professional" may well describe them best, though CSN's harmonies do add a nice flavor to the songs. The sound quality varies. The first ten tracks are surprisingly very good while the next two, "Walk On" and "Ambulance Blues," are so-so due to a "muffled" feel. I'm unsure as to whether these 12 tracks are'nth-generation soundboard recordings or audience tapes but, really, it doesn't matter. They're eminently listenable. The final two songs are most definitely from an audience tape--or is that a vinyl source? Possibly.
