Review (Bluestown Music) : Neil Young + Promise Of The Real release a new live album, 'Noise & Flowers', that captures the group in all their glory on their 2019 European tour. The release will be accompanied by a concert film that shares the same title and is included in the album's 2xLP+CD+Blu-ray Deluxe Edition. The European tour from which the project was pulled included nine shows and stands as the ensemble's most recent tour. The trek which began on June 29, 2019, started just two weeks after the passing of Young's manager and lifetime friend, Elliot Roberts, who was honored during the run. "Playing in his memory (made it) one of the most special tours ever," Young shared in the album's liner notes. "We hit the road and took his great spirit with us into every song. This music belongs to no one. It's in the air. Every note was played for music's great friend, Elliot." The film and live album feature songs from across Youngs disography including fan favorites like "Rockin' in The Free World," "Mr. Soul," and "Helpless," deep cuts like "On The Beach" and '90s classics like "Throw Your Hatred Down."

Review (Louder Sound) : Compiled from their summer 2019 tour, this album stands as Young's heartfelt tribute to Elliot Roberts, his friend and manager of over 50 years who passed away two weeks before the tour began. Eschewing Young's work recorded with Promise Of The Real - or indeed anything written this side of 1995 - Noise & Flowers' nine crowd pleasers offer exactly what that brilliant title suggests. This includes a range of styles from Rockin' In The Free World (slightly marred by its ending) and Throw Your Hatred Down to the country stylings of Field Of Opportunity and Hank To Hendrix. Completists will need to shell out for the deluxe box set to acquire five more tracks including On The Beach - which he's played only four times in the past 47 years and never before with a band - but less enjoyable might be the strained renditions of other bonuses I've Been Waiting For You and Winterlong.
