NEIL YOUNG : LOST TALES OF EXILE |
|
Label : Capricorn Records Time : 73:31 Venue : Civic Center, Springfield, Massachussets, USA Date : June 27th, 1976 Quality : Soundboard Recording (A+) Review (Old Grey Cat) : Lost Tales of Exile is a one-disc version of the two-CD "Empty Ocean Road" with several deletions and one addition. We lose "Love the One You're With," "Black Queen," "The Loner," and "The Treasure," as well as the acoustic "Change Partners" and "On the Way Home," but gain "Mr. Soul," which apparently was the first encore. That's one of the better songs on the disc and adds a third Buffalo Springfield track (second in this collection) to the show. Oddly, the insert indicates that "49 Bye Byes" is also on the disk, but instead we hear "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes," which is repeated 2 songs later in an identical performance.Other than these differences, Exile suffers the same major flaws as Empty Ocean Road. While adding "Mr. Soul" might bring the rating up a notch, the double play of "Suite," and the omission of Road's decent acoustic performances (while retaining the horrid "Make Love to You") keep it at the failing level. If you absolutely must have a disk from the Stills-Young tour, buy this one to save a few bucks. Otherwise, avoid at all costs. |
