Review (Old Grey Cat) : Afternoon Acoustic features the whole of the solo acoustic set from Mountainview, California on July 11th 1997. Young played nine songs on acoustic guitar in a tent before a comparatively small audience. He appears to have been in a relaxed, jocular mood. The feeling and atmosphere can be picked up from the disc. Young chats between and through songs, a marked contrast to 1996. The Mountainview set has something for everyone - old favorites (do we really need to hear "Needle" again?), two new songs and some live rarities, all crystal clear. The bonuses come from four other shows, with a similar mix of songs. "Homefires," "Give Me Strength" and acoustic outings for "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" and "Throw Your Hatred Down" are real treats. In all, the disc contains 17 tracks, each selected with care with the fan in mind.
