Review (Amazon) : Probably the most underrated album in the Little River Band catalog, Monsoon marked the return of vocalist Glenn Shorrock after he temporarily handed the role of "lead mouth" to John Farnham. Shorrock reclaims the role with enthusiasm and delivers that famous "LRB sound". Principal songwriters Graeham Goble and Shorrock provide a wealth of new material that ranges from the rocking opener It's Cold Out Tonight to the luscious harmonies of Soul Searching and Love is a Bridge. My personal favourites include Goble's contemplative A Cruel Madness and Son of a Famous Man, dedicated to Julian Lennon. Others like Parallel Lines and Face in the Crowd are guaranteed to get your body moving. Goble and Shorrock have recently regrouped with Beeb Birtles and are recording and touring as Birtles Shorrock Goble, the original voices and songwriters of The Little River Band. The fact that they have included four tracks from Monsoon in their live set speaks volumes for the quality of the work therein. If your enjoyment of LRB is limited to the likes of Reminiscing, Lady and Cool Change then I urge you to seek out a copy of Monsoon. Your ears are in for a treat!
