LED ZEPPELIN : REMASTERS |
|
Disc One (72:50)
Disc Two (72:16)
Label : Atlantic Records Release Date : October 4, 1990 Review (AllMusic) : Jimmy Page hated Zepp's early CD releases to the point of remastering (for the first time) part of the catalog in 1990 in a box set that was called, unoriginally, "Boxed." "Remasters" is the reduced edition of that box and in turn works as the first official Led Zeppelin compilation. Put together chronologically, it obviously not only brings the obligatory songs (such as "Rock And Roll" or "Stairway to Heaven") but also songs that show a certain folk air (Babe I'm Gonna Leave You", "The Battle of Evermore") that mix of blues and psychedelia trademark ("Whole Lotta Love") remnants of British electric blues ("Since I've Been Loving You") epic acoustic ("The Rain Song") or electric ("Achilles Last Stand") to progressive flirtations like "No Quarter" or his reading of other rhythms and/or textures as in "D'yer Mak'er" or "Kashmir". If someone doesn't know Led Zeppelin and you don't know which of their albums to recommend, this would be a more than drinkable solution. An excellent summary of one of the most important bands in rock history. It is complete, but not entirely obvious and that is notable. |
