Review (The Front Loader) : In 1994, members of The Black Crowes, Cypress Hill, Jellyfish, The Jayhawks, and The Ju Ju Hounds got together to play a show at The Troubadour in Los Angeles. They dubbed themselves "Foamfoot" and were essentially a cover band. Here is the breakdown of the members: Chris Robinson (Black Crowes) Marc Ford (Black Crowes) Andy Sturmer (Jellyfish) Jimmy Ashhurst (The JuJu Hounds) Eric Bobo (played w/ Cypress Hill, Beastie Boys ) Gary Louris (The Jayhawks). The fortunate thing is that this show was recorded and sounds GREAT. The unfortunate thing is that there really isn't any more information about this night. I've scoured the web for something, ANYTHING about that specific date, but the only thing I have come up with is the interesting fact that Valeri Polyakov began his 437.7 day orbit on the Soyus TM-18, setting the world record for most days spent in orbit. Yeah, that has nothing to do with Foamfoot. that's how little information there IS about the group. If you're a huge Crowes fan, you probably already have this bootleg. I'm tellin' you - it sounds GREAT. The song selection is excellent and deep, even pulling out relatively unknown tracks like "Jerimiah Surrender" from The Band. Marc Ford's guitar playing is crisp, raunchy, and full. he truly is one of the best rock guitarists out there. The show's recording was originally intended for release, but that obviously didn't happen, as this bootleg has been circulating for years. "Foamfoot" is such a cool name. When other musicians and I want to do the same thing as Foamfoot, we've tossed around names like "Little Jug" or "Dastardly Devils." Yeah, not as cool. I don't consider Foamfoot a "Supergroup," because they didn't try to write any originals, they just went out there and played music they love. Sometimes that's all the reason you need to get on stage, because that's the whole point to being a performer: to share the art. Sometimes, who cares who made it up. Enjoy the show. I've listed the original artists next to the song title.

Review (Maniac Paul's Bootlegs) : A unique show, capturing the 'Black Crowes' in a blues cover show. Chris Robinson and Marc Ford are playing as a jam band, singing a variety of non-Crowes songs. They even have some friends join them onstange. David Crosby is up for his own song - Long Time Gone, while Gary Lewis sings Take The Highway with them. One of a kind show, it is made better by the fact that it sounds great. This is a 76 minute show, even though it has only 10 tracks. Very impressive.

Review (Stadium Studios Blog) : This is a great one of a kind show. Chris Robinson and Marc Ford of The Black Crowes play a bunch of blues covers with some friends. The sound is outstanding and although it has only 10 tracks, the set is 76 minutes long. Enjoy!

Review (Aquarium Drunkards Blog) : If you consider yourself a serious Black Crowes fan you probably already own this. The first thing you should know about Foamfoot is that it is a cover band, a damn fine cover band at that, playing mostly Southern Rock and '70s staples. Formed and fronted by Chris Robinson in Los Angeles in the mid-1990's, Foamfoot did a one-off show at the Troubadour here in L.A. Read what Frayed.org has to say: "On January 8th, 1994 at the Troubadour in Hollywood, several members of the Black Crowes joined up with a handful of other artists for Foamfoot. Chris Robinson and Marc Ford of the Black Crowes played with Jimmy Ashurst (The JuJu Hounds), Eric Bobo (Cypress Hill), Gary Louris (The Jayhawks) and Andy Sturmer (Jellyfish). The show was an impromtu gig, however, it was recorded for possible release by the band." I would have paid big money to have been at this show.just look at the set-list below. While there was never an official release, but a bootleg copy of the show began circulating several years afterwards. A friend passed along his copy to me several years ago, and so I pass it on to the Drunkard faithful. Note: David Crosby makes a cameo on "Long Time Gone."
