Label : Mid Valley Venue : Royal Albert Hall, London, England Recording Date : January 10, 11 & 12, 1987 Quality : Soundboard Recordings (A+) Review (Geetarz) : WOW. Yes, a palindrome to start off this review. And a necessary palindrome it is, as Mid Valley has knocked one out of the park yet again. Taken directly from the cassette masters, sound quality is perfect on this really righteously remastered release. There are soundboards, and there are soundboards - those that are a fan of the "jammed in the speaker cone", in your face mix, will be in love with this release. Every nuance is captured. Review (Geetarz) : I just finished listening to the last two nights of these 3 shows...there are unfortunately some shortcomings in my opinion. On the night of the 11th, Clapton's guitar is very, very low in the mix, even during his solos! Likewise, on the 12th, Clapton's guitar is loud but Mark Knopfler's guitar is extremely low in the mix on many songs, which is rather unfortunate because he lays down some great fills on White Room, Badge and Let it Rain, just to name a few. That being said, any concert which involves the "four piece" with the addition of Mark Knopfler on guitar is an essential in my opinion. Just make sure you listen to the 11th in addition to the popular 12th to better hear Knopfler's work. Also, Greg Phillinganes "counterpoint" vocals on White Room are very low in the mix.. |
