BOB DYLAN : THE SOUND OF SILENCE |
|
Disc One
Disc Two
Label : Port 1/2 Venue : Rose Garden, Portland, Oregon, USA Date : June 12, 1999 Quality : Audience Recording (A+) Review from Bob's Boots : The sound is fat and warm, and the recording quality is very good. The vocals are up front. The crowd noise is always present, but very low. It doesn't detract from the show. This 2 CD release presents the entire Dylan portion of the show. The pedestrian set list is geared toward the casual fan, but each song is performed with authority. Dylan is a vocal powerhouse. The package is an amateurish first offering from this Label. All the classic newbie mistakes are made. From an overused, blurry photo to barely fair aesthetics. From the lack of venue and Label information to incorrect era photo and bad color combination choice for the back cover track list. Don't simply write this one off, though. There are some great renditions of Dylan classics here, as well as a few interesting duets with Paul Simon. Comments from Monica's Dude : Apparently cloned from the Portland, Oregon fan project. While the recording quality is not technically perfect, the warmth and atmosphere more than makes up for any lack of clarity. Despite an apparently pedestrian setlist, the performances showcase some glorious vocalising from Dylan; each and every song is convincingly rendered. A relentless and devastating tide of mystery and wonder. Filler tracks (7-10) from Arco Arena, Sacramento, CA, June 16, 1999. |
