Review (GigInJapan) : The 1986 American tour by Bob Dylan and Tom Petty saw several soundboard recordings leaked due to PA outs, and many of them circulated in an incomplete state, not exempt from examples typical of such leaks. However, unlike the soundboards from the 70s by ZEP, Dylan's shows were fundamentally recorded in full, even those circulating in incomplete forms among the series of '86 soundboards were confirmed to be fully recorded. This was a shocking release for collectors worldwide who were validated by it - "BONNER SPRINGS 1986 SOUNDBOARD." For a long time, only the latter part of the live show was available from this soundboard, causing the special opening number, "Kansas City," to go unheard. However, this title astonished collectors by also capturing the crucial opening in soundboard quality. Furthermore, the exceptional sound quality added to its appeal, demonstrating how easy to listen to Dylan's 1980s PA soundboards were, making it a significant release in that regard. Amidst the memory of such a shocking release, the collector who provided the full-length version of the Bonner Springs show on July 24th offered another gem, this time from Red Rocks on the 26th. This show not only followed the Bonner Springs show but was also another day where only extremely incomplete soundboard recordings were available. Recordings from this day circulated capturing only the latter part of the live performance. Additionally, previous versions had been circulated among traders in a downgraded mono state, failing to convey Dylan's intense performance during the latter part of the live show. Despite the initial neglect, this Red Rocks first-day PA soundboard recording has now been made available in its entirety by the same collector behind "BONNER SPRINGS 1986 SOUNDBOARD." Not only has the full-length version been unearthed, but the sound quality is unmatched compared to previous versions, now in crystal-clear stereo. If Bonner Springs demonstrated a show opening with "Kansas City," then this day saw Dylan's vocals incredibly powerful. His rendition of "Like A Rolling Stone" was even more intense than Bonner Springs, followed by a sharp performance of "In The Garden." As previously mentioned, the intensity of these performances couldn't be conveyed through previous versions, but with this super-clear stereo, the passion is overwhelming. Moreover, listening to the complete soundboard from this day reveals that Dylan was firing on all cylinders right from the start. His rendition of "All Along The Watchtower," with its loose arrangement typical of this period, showcases his peak form. Additionally, "Seeing The Real You At Last" surpasses the energy of Bonner Springs. This release not only offers a complete soundboard but also showcases the brilliance of the performances. As a bonus, recordings of "I Shall Be Released" from studio rehearsals with the Heartbreakers and Queens of Rhythm in 1985 are included. While not a debut, this rehearsal was previously released on Rattlesnake's "THE 1985 REHEARSAL TAPE," but here it's extended to over ten minutes. Dylan's role in directing the backing vocals even after he stops singing is a revealing and shocking fact. He preferred rehearsal settings where he could adapt the band to his liking, a sentiment echoed by musicians who worked with him. The importance of this scene was overlooked in the Rattlesnake release, making this extended bonus exceptionally rare. Both the main Red Rocks show and the bonus offer a highly satisfying and superbly recorded second installment of the shocking '86 soundboard! ?Limited to the first 80 copies, numbered stickers will be included with the release.
