Disc One (57:43)
Disc Two (50:21)
Label : BDBJ Venue : Workers Gymnasium, Beijing, China Recording Date : April 6, 2011 Quality : Audience Recording (A-) Review : This was Dylan's first-ever concert on Mainland China, part of a short Asian leg that also took in Taipei and Shanghai. The Workers Gymnasium crowd was a mix of expats and a surprisingly young, enthusiastic local audience who knew the songs well. Much was made in the press beforehand of the setlist supposedly being vetted by Chinese authorities, with some fans reading a bit of irony into the opener "Gonna Change My Way Of Thinking" and into "All Along The Watchtower" closing the first encore. Musically the show followed a fairly typical 2011 arrangement, with a lovely early "Simple Twist Of Fate" and a strong run through "Highway 61 Revisited," "Ballad Of A Thin Man" and "Like A Rolling Stone." Dylan capped the night with a rare second encore of "Forever Young," a warm and unexpected send-off that left the crowd stunned. This audience recording captures the atmosphere of that historic night nicely, with a clear, well-balanced sound throughout. |
