BOB DYLAN : LIVE |

Label : Silver Shadow Venue : Ahoy, Rotterdam, The Netherlands Recording Date : September 19, 1987 Length : 72:56 Quality : Audience Recording (A-) Review (Bob's Boots) : This is a fairly good analog audience recording that has been digitally cleaned up. The result is a very good overall sound. The music is slightly buried, but the vocals are out on top. Some high end EQ helps, if it is available to you. The show highlights are a majestic I Shall Be Released with an added verse; a powerful, bluesy Slow Train; and an erie John Brown. In the latter, a three note piano triplet plays over and over again giving it the 'Exorcist' feel of Tubular Bells. The filler material takes a dive in sound quality. While Letterman is a strong performance, the tinny, thin, mono, TV broadcast recording is not up to par with most period audience recordings. The package is only fair. The title sucks. There is no venue information listed on the cover. Not even the year. The info only appears on the CD itself. A small SIAE sticker appears on the back of the jewel case to lend a hint of legitimacy. |
