|
Disc One (45:00)
Disc Two (46:01)
Label : no label Venue : Norwegian Wood Festival, Oslo, Norway Recording Date : July 6, 1998 Quality : Audience recording (A+) Review (CDG) : High sound quality, capturing the "cold" tone and timbre you often find at open air festivals. Review (Gopherstick) : After a painful, out of tune, carnival-sounding Watchtower opens the books on this show things settle down a bit. Bob is ragged and shouting more than singing though, never a good sign. I wonder if he's been drinking some before the show, right before Simple Twist of Fate he explains that he feels at home because he was born in Minnesota, where the Vikings landed long before Columbus did. Uh...great, Bob, if you ever need work as a substitute teacher let us know. Then he gets into Simple Twist, which is not the best technical version you're going to hear but it's funny to hear him sing around his voice, which as I said is ragged and shouted out. White Dove opens the acoustic set, but it's a little sloppy and rushed. Tambourine Man is a little better but overall the songs all being played too fast and Bob is letting the guitars swell over his singing for whole songs at a time. Make You Feel My Love is gently and well sung tonight, for once the band is playing under the lyrics. Sadly that's the exception to the norm tonight. The encore set holds steady just above mediocrity. |
