Review (BBC) : Jo Whiley hosts one of the most unforgettable bands from the sixties, Deep Purple, for tonight's Radio 2 In Concert which will also be broadcast in vision on BBC Red Button. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees will be playing their biggest hits from across the decades. The holy grail of In Rock (1970) Machine Head (1972) and Made In Japan (1973) catapulted the 1960's rock band to the top, with track Smoke On The Water ascending to mega-status. Ian Paice of Deep Purple says: "Deep Purple are really looking forward to performing for the BBC Radio 2's In Concert programme. It's been many years since we did something like this. But through all those years one thing has never changed. Playing live is the only way to capture the spirit of Rock n Roll music, because even 60 years after it reared its wonderful rebellious head that's what it still is! There is no safety net of the recording machine to 'fix things later', you get it right or get it wrong. For the musicians it's an adrenaline rush, concentration and invention but most of all fun. That's why we started doing it when we were kids. We hope you have fun being on the receiving end." This run of special In Concerts celebrates BBC Radio 2's 50th birthday, with a legendary line-up from the last five decades. So far we have had performances from Tears For Fears, CHIC feat. Nile Rodgers, Liam Gallagher, and Paloma Faith with each concert marking a different decade of music in the fifty years of Radio 2. Taking place in the BBC Radio Theatre, London, the series of intimate performances will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 2 as well as in vision via the BBC Red Button. All performances will be available on BBC iPlayer for thirty days.

Review (UDiscoverMusic) : Legendary heavy rockers Deep Purple have been announced as one of the name bands set to perform one of the special BBC Radio 2 'In Concert' series of shows during November 2017. Direct from the BBC Radio Theatre in London, the band will be lighting a fire in the sky as they play selected numbers from their highly-acclaimed back catalogue of rock classics, including tracks from its electrifying new album, InFinite. The show is scheduled for Thursday, 16 November, and fans can watch the whole gig live from 8 p.m. on the BBC Red Button (available by pressing red from any BBC TV channel). "Deep Purple are really looking forward to performing for the BBC Radio 2's 'In Concert' programme," says drummer Ian Paice. "It's been many years since we did something like this. But through all those years, one thing has never changed. Playing live is the only way to capture the spirit of rock n roll music, because even 60 years after it reared its wonderful rebellious head, that's what it still is! That's why we started doing it when we were kids. We hope you have fun being on the receiving end." The band's most recent album InFinite was released in April via earMUSIC. The disc is the first album bassist Roger Glover and singer Ian Gillan have made since turning 70. Gillan, the oldest member of the band, turned 72 in August. Glover will become 72 on November 30. Paice is still several years younger at 69. The current Deep Purple line-up is rounded out by keyboardist Don Airey and guitarist Steve Morse. Airey joined in 2002, replacing Jon Lord, while Morse joined in 1994 as the replacement for Ritchie Blackmore.
