Review (Tinnitist) : The edited press release : “Sharon is the alternate recording of what would become Cowboy Junkies 1990 album The Caution Horses, the followup to the band’s iconic album The Trinity Session. The one-microphone recording, captured over three days at Sharon Temple in the spring of 1989, is a ‘lost’ album featuring many songs that became The Caution Horses. This release is a limited pressing that includes an eight-page booklet containing liner notes by Dave Bowler (author of the band’s biography Music Is The Drug) and never-before-seen session photos by Chris Buck. Sharon was mastered for vinyl by Cowboy Junkies’ long-time producer Peter Moore. “We spent three unseasonably cold days at the Sharon Temple, a uniquely beautiful wood building situated about an hour north of Toronto and built by a Quaker offshoot as a place to perform music and celebrate God,” explains guitarist and songwriter Michael Timmins. “In the end we shelved the album and went on to record The Caution Horses in its stead. But 33 years later, here she is, Sharon, for the first time on vinyl, rescued from the gaping maw of oblivion.” Featured performers on Sharon include Margo Timmins (vocal), Michael Timmins (guitar), Peter Timmins (drums) and Alan Anton (bass) with guest musicians Jeff Bird (mandolin, harmonica, fiddle), Jaro Czerwinec (accordion), David Houghton (percussion) and Kim Deschamps (pedal steel, lap steel).”

Review (Michael Timmins ) : We’ve always considered Sharon to be our lost child. Back in the Spring of 1989 we got together with Peter Moore and started planning our third album, the follow up to The Trinity Session. We decided to again do a one-microphone recording, so Peter Moore headed out to scout locations. One of the venues that he found was Sharon Temple, a uniquely beautiful wood building situated about an hour north of Toronto and built by a Quaker off-shoot as a place to perform music and celebrate God. We spent three unseasonably cold days there in April 1989 and Sharon was born. In the end we shelved the album and went on to record The Caution Horses in its stead. But thirty-three years later, here she is, Sharon, for the first time on vinyl, rescued from the gaping maw of oblivion. This album is available exclusively on 180 gram vinyl and only through our on-line store until early 2023, when it will be more widely released. It will also be available on streaming sites on Sept 30th. There are no immediate plans to release it on CD. This is a limited pressing which also includes an 8-page booklet containing liner notes by Dave Bowler (author of the bands’ biography Music Is The Drug) and never before seen session photos by Chris Buck. Mastered for vinyl by Peter Moore. This is a pre-order and will be shipped on September 30, 2022.

Review (Discogs) : All tracks recorded on a single Calrec Ambisonic microphone in April 1989 at Sharon Temple in East Gwillimbury, Ontario, Canada. Initial release includes 8 page booklet.
