BRYAN FERRY : LOS ANGELES 1994 |
|
Label : no label Length : 86:42 Venue : Pantages Theatre, Los Angels, California, USA Recording Date : December 8th, 1994 Quality : Pre-FM Recording (A+) Review (Variety) : Back in Los Angeles for the first time in ages and promoting his debut album for Virgin Records, Bryan Ferry sold out the Pantages Theater for three nights running. Outside, it might have been 1994, inside, the atmosphere was Rodney Bingenheimer's English Discotheque 20 years ago - platform shoes, teased hair piled to the ceiling. And then there were the girls ... Aside from the fact that he's now wearing relaxed-fit leather pants, Ferry hasn't changed physically in 20 years. The singer added to the evening's glam-retro atmosphere by tossing a handful of glitter into the audience during his first number, a smooth, sort of Europop arrangement of "I Put a Spell on You." The show was a 90-minute career retrospective ranging from Ferry's biggest hits with Roxy Music - the dance-oriented "Love Is the Drug,""Do the Strand" and "Virginia Plain"- through his more romantically inclined solo works, right up to a couple of numbers from "Mamouna," his first album of all-original material since 1987's "Bete Noir." |
