BRUCE COCKBURN : DANNY GATTON MEMORIAL 1995 |
|
Label : no label Venue : Danny Gatton Memorial, Tramps, New York City, New York, USA Recording Date : January 11-12, 1995 Length : 71:35 Quality : Soundboard recording (A+) Review : Bruce Cockburn played two small acoustic sets at the Danny Gatton Tribute at Tramps in New York. Danny Gatton was an American guitarist who fused blues, rockabilly, jazz, and country to create a musical style he called "redneck jazz". On October 4, 1994, Gatton locked himself in the garage on his farm in Newburg, Maryland, and took his own life by shooting himself. Although he left no note or explanation, family members and close friends believe he suffered from depression for many years. Tracks 1 to 8 come from January 11th, 1995 while tracks 9 to 13 come from the next day. The bonus tracks come from an interesting radio program broadcasted on WNEW FM called "Idiot's Delight". The show features free form discussions and spontaneous performances from a variety of artists. This clip, recorded on January 12th, 1997 highlights a great performance of two jazz standards Bruce sometimes plays in sound-check : "You Belong to Me" and "I'll be Seeing You". In addition to the aforementioned standards, included is the interview banter where the host does a marvelous job of enticing Bruce to play. |
