Review : Osaka 2019 captures Boz Scaggs on May 11, 2019, at the Orix Theater in Osaka, Japan, during the Japanese leg of his Out Of The Blues tour, which had opened a few nights earlier with two shows at Tokyo's Orchard Hall. The set draws on the then-current album with "Rock And Stick" and "Radiator 110," while the Silk Degrees years are generously represented by "Jojo," "Lowdown," "Lido Shuffle," "Georgia," "Harbor Lights," "It's Over" and "What Can I Say." A run of blues and R&B covers, from Bobby "Blue" Bland and Earl King to Fenton Robinson, Chuck Berry and Chris Kenner, gives the band room to stretch out, while material from "Middle Man" and "A Fool To Care" fills out a relaxed, generous set that closes with a rare double encore. Taped from the in-ear-monitor feed, the recording offers a clean, detailed document of Scaggs and his band in easy, confident form on this Japanese tour date.
