Review (Rate Your Music) : It's a tricky one. Though, Price is immensely talented, this is a very average effort on his part. It's hard to give the album a bad rating, because musically all the pieces are here. However, there's almost zero hooks, or overall meaning to the album. 'Changes' was on, O Lucky Man!, didn't need a remake and is a vestigial artifact of a time when Price had his finger squarely on the pulse, despite his quirky tropes and unconventional Pop sound. To expand on what I mean, O Lucky Man! was a scintillating collection of top notch songwriting, great lyrics and memorable tunes, with a bit of a punk flavour to the cadences of certain tracks, with folk and baroque influences tying it all together. This song placed here, is quite a harsh reminder of past glories. There's no question Alan Price is a slight genius. Shades of his brilliance appear on songs like the title track. However, this album sounds like a bunch of B-Sides put together. Almost all songs have nice arrangements, horns, trumpets; all that good stuff typical of Alan Price, but even multiple listens don't satisfy.
