Review (AllMusic) : During the 2009 world tour in support of their 2008 album Black Ice, AC/DC performed three concerts in Buenos Aires, Argentina - the first time the band had played the city in 13 years. Live at River Plate documents these three shows in front of an audience of 200,000 people with a 19-song set list and a running time of almost two hours. Available on DVD and Blu-ray, the live concert film was directed by David Mallet, who captured the performances with 32 HD cameras.

Review (Metal Assault) : Classic rock legends AC/DC have finally completed their gigantic Black Ice World Tour, spanning almost three years of legendary concerts across the globe. As a celebration of the tour, they now present to you a live concert DVD that documents their time in Argentina. It consisted of three sold out shows that took place in December 2009, attended by a total of 200,000 insane fans. The concerts were shot entirely in HD with as many as 32 cameras, and after watching the entire footage, I can say with certainty that the DVD showcases the legends in the best way anyone possibly could. The cover artwork itself is enough to get any AC/DC fan's heart racing, with an embossed AC/DC logo and a picture of guitarist Angus Young in full glory. A 12-page booklet is included inside, full of endearing close-up live shots of the band members and a breathtaking shot of the famed River Plate Stadium rocking out to AC/DC. All of this sets the perfect tone for you to insert that DVD in your player right away. The song selection for the tour and indeed for this DVD couldn't have been any better than what it is, featuring 19 classics old and new. The band's performance of the older hits and the Black Ice material is equally amazing, which will definitely appeal to both young and old AC/DC fans. While watching the band perform and the crowd's reaction to their performance, you couldn't tell that the show took place in 2009, that's how good the band still is when it comes to live shows. They are the most glorious epitome of what I would call a 'perennial rock' band, the kind of rock band hat never loses its impact, never loses its fan base. This DVD simply reasserts this fact. Vocalist Brian Johnson sounds unbelievably great at the age of 62, while Angus Young's non-stop energy is equally breathtaking. Watching this incredible crowd sing and jump along with the music will surely give you chills like you would have never had before. If you're the type of person who can afford traveling around the world just to be part of rock concerts, Argentina's Buenos Aires is the place to be. I've never quite seen such passion in a crowd's collective response to a live band. It's quite clear that for them this is much more than just another gig. While merely watching it is thrilling in itself, I can't even imagine what it would feel like to be part of that crowd. The DVD also comes with two bonus features, the first of which is a mini-documentary titled "The Fan, The Roadie, The Guitar Tech & The Meat". It's exactly about what the title suggests, and includes interviews with AC/DC fans, crew, while it's also interspersed with some live footage and behind the scenes footage of the band. The whole thing has been put together in a very classy, stylish manner and comes across as a nice cherry on top of this awe-inspiring rock 'n roll cake. The other bonus item is the 2-minute long AC/DC Tour Animation that kicked off every show on this tour. As Brian Johnson summed up perfectly during the show, "We don't speak very good Spanish, but I think we speak rock 'n roll pretty good!" That just about captures everything "AC/DC Live At River Plate" stands for, a flawless representation of rock 'n roll in its purest and more classic form. Just like any AC/DC show, this DVD is worth multiple times the price you'd pay for it, and is quite simply a must-have for every rock fan. AC/DC, we will forever salute you.
